About Me

A love of water and movement has turned out to play a wonderfully central role in my life. Despite 13 years of attempting to adapt, I never took to office life, fidgety at having to sit for long hours and feeling very much a fish out of water. I was fortunate to grow up in the tropical heat of Thailand… I first swam off on my own at the age of 2 and spent most of my childhood in the swimming pool and playing as many sports as possible. I moved back to the UK for university and on to London, for work, and despite the discomfort of being tied to a desk, managed to persevere and qualify as a Chartered Accountant. Fighting the fidgetiness I stuck at it, but upon hitting my early 30’s I was desperate for change, fresh air and an entirely different way of being.

I was extremely fortunate to come across Steven Shaw at this time. I’d been looking for some help with my swimming technique (I was getting achy shoulders after each swim and couldn’t find anyone who could give me advice as to why this could be). After just one lesson I was hooked on the method, finally understanding what I needed to adapt in my technique and very soon after, Steven, aware that I was looking for change, suggested I train as a Shaw Method teacher. I took the plunge, left my accountancy role and have never looked back. I’ve been teaching Shaw Method swimming now since 2013 and have met such a wonderful variety of people. It’s been an absolute pleasure passing on the delights and benefits of swimming.

I started taking Pilates classes soon after qualifying in the Shaw Method, giving swimming lessons in exchange for Pilates classes with a wonderful Pilates teacher, Hannah Adam. I quickly realised just how much Pilates could improve not only my swimming, but other sports I play too, along with addressing the postural issues I’d built up over years of office life. It didn’t take me long to decide to train as a Pilates teacher and I then embarked upon training with BASI (Body Arts Science International) - first qualifying in the mat work and then undertaking their full ‘comprehensive’ teacher training programme which incorporates all of the Pilates equipment (including the reformer, wunda chair and cadillac).

I’m now in the fortunate position of having my own home studio from which to teach Pilates, both in person and online. I teach swimming locally in Woking, but also give bespoke workshops and lessons to people with access to their own pools.

I’d be delighted to help you - either by introducing you to Shaw Method Swimming or Pilates or both… please get in touch!
