‘Pilates for Runners’

Group Mat Class

Tuesdays: 6.00 - 6.50pm

Run Company, Woking

I am delighted to be offering this mat class at Run Company, aimed specifically at Runners.

Pilates is a hugely beneficial complementary form of exercise to running and the class will aim to improve all the below:

  • Core control and core strength, which includes all the stabilising muscles of the abdominals, hips, back, shoulders and neck. This makes it easier to maintain good postural control when running and lessens excess pressure on the lower back and lower limbs.

  • Balance, which reduces the risk of injury through tripping or falling and contributes to better biomechanics when running.

  • Mobility through all joints. Runners often suffer from tight hip flexors, which can cause lower back pain, affect stride length, and impact fluidity of movement. Pilates works on lengthening muscles and balancing out muscle strength around all the joints, so that the arms and legs can move more freely.

  • Running performance! The improvement in postural alignment and strength that you gain from Pilates, along with the ability to relax and hold your form even as you begin to tire, will all contribute to more efficient and effective running.
